Newcastle United need to bring in defensive reinforcements in the summer, particularly in the full-back positions.

While Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are fantastic full-backs, Newcastle don’t have many options to back up the first-choice duo and with Livramento’s injury problems, this is a real concern.

Lewis Hall is a bit more reliable when it comes to availability, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need more options in his position.

Versatility is what we need. A player who can cover several positions, isn’t going to cost the earth and is going to be happy to be a bit-part player, at least initially.

Jorge Salinas is half off for June

Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas ticks a lot of boxes in this regard. The 19-year-old can play at centre-back or left-back and is coming off the back of a good season with the Spanish side.

Newcastle have already been linked with the young Spaniard, with a release clause of £13.8 million reported.

However, Spanish outlet AS, who once again credit Newcastle with an interest in Salinas, now claims that his release clause is actually only £6.9 million in June and doubles in July.

Jorge Salinas has plenty of admirers

Newcastle aren’t the only club interested in Salinas, as Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen, Porto, PSG, and Bologna are all keen too.

There are 10 days left of the month, and Newcastle should absolutely be making their move now to nab a 50% off deal for the talented youngster, especially when the competition is going to be so fierce.

Of course, the concern is: why has nobody already made a concrete move for the lad if he’s half price for the rest of ht emonth? Are the interested clubs having reservations about his talent?

After missing out on one deal already this summer, though, we’d like to see Newcastle being a bit more proactive. Let’s make the move!
