There are a number of top central midfielders on the market this summer, and we’re almost certain Chelsea will be in for at least one of them. The Blues look likely to sell Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid, and that will mean a hunt for a replacement.
Crystal Palace asking price could keep Chelsea away

One name that’s coming up a lot is Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace. Our writer Simon Phillips dropped a long piece yesterday naming him as the man who “Chelsea really want to sign as their new midfield arrival.”
It won’t be easy, of course. Palace are in a strong position, and under no pressure to sell. They are going to ask £100m for the former Blackburn Rovers man.
Can Chelsea pay that? Will they pay it? It’s tough to know. Even if they do sell Fernandez for a similar amount, it’s a vast sum for any player. It certainly feels like a deal that remains pretty far off, despite our evident interest in the England international.
