FULL-TIME!

The whistle blows at BC Place Vancouver as Canada thrash nine-man Qatar 6-0 to go top of Group B and move closer to the round of 32.

Larin opened the scoring in the 16th minute, prodding home from close range, before David doubled the lead 13 minutes later with an exquisite right-footed volley.

Qatar were reduced to 10 men in the 33rd minute when El Amin was sent off, via VAR, for bringing down Buchanan just outside the box.

Canada capitalised as David tapped into an empty net in first-half stoppage time.

The Maroons were then reduced to nine men eight minutes into the second half after Madibo caught Kone with a late tackle, resulting in the Sassuolo midfielder being stretchered off with an apparent broken leg.

Kone’s replacement Saliba added a fourth in the 64th minute, bending a 20-yard free-kick around the Qatar wall and in off the upright.

Al Manai inadvertently found his own net 11 minutes later as he tried to clear Shaffelburg’s volley, before David completed his hat-trick in the second minute of second-half stoppage time after latching onto Saliba’s pass.

Canada now sit first in Group B, level on points with Switzerland but with a better goal difference.

Qatar are bottom and will want to forget this result quickly.

Canada had 32 shots with 10 on target, reflected by an xG of 4.46, while Qatar registered two shots with none on target, highlighted by an xG of 0.18.
