I still think if we sign him, he will be brought in as a replacement/sub for Varane and not as a RB. There are better pure RBs in the game rn. Also Ajax are not doing too well in the league rn, they were in the market for a defender too. So that means there is a really good chance that they wouldnt sale/loan anyone in this window. So he is a summer target, the way I look at it.
Would prefer him as a RB since he has played that position well not a CB. He could do a role similar to Ben white !!. My prefered option would be Kim Min Jae (45M release clause)

My main issue is height, having a few short players is fine but United need a core of 6 players over 5ft 11 (like classic Mourinho). Otherwise we will get out powered easily and really struggle with set pieces.
I agree, Timber can also play CDM so he can be even deadlier and influential in the buildup play through the center by his ridiculous ball carrying AND passing ability. Such a player would transform United completely… But do the Glazers love United so much they'll immediately pump Ajax with millions? We shall see.
He is really a gem like you said and having watched Ajax for a long I can tell that He is good the only concern is his height and playing as a RB is good but what of Dalot and how can you Timber and Dalot in the same game unless you play 5 man back and ETH is not that sort of manager that plays 5 man back so I would really love him cause He is outstanding and the analysis you gave was spot on if we sign Him but I don't know fantastic video as always.

Jurrien Timber is an extremely intelligent and versatile player. I wouldn't mind having him as a cover for RB. Having intelligent players is absolutely necessary for dominating possession. Jurrien Timber would massively help Utd with ball progression and evading the press. Having a player who can break the press would be excellent. His height may be a disadvantage but it is a trade-off I would be willing to make for his technical ability.

Schreuder's been sacked so Ajax's season's not gone well. If that tracks till the summer, he may want to leave but I don't think we should go for him for three simple reasons:
1. I think it'd be naive to play both him and Martinez together as CBs for obvs reasons and they'd have to alternate
2. We either need another left sided defender or a left back if we're going to have Shaw deputise for Licha
3. He wimped out last summer and couldn't trust his own manager enough to follow him. That's a question mark on his mentality for me because Licha held off Arsenal for Erik.
Ultimately I'm ok with him as an alternative RB- could be a masterstroke- and if Erik vouches for his commitment and mentality then sure. I trust this manager.

Why not him as the midfielder alongside Casemiro? he certainly has the dribbling to turn away from the press and the passing ability for it
a build-up base of Licha, Varane, Timber, Case and Le Fee would be so complete and satisfying to watch
It's obvious our concern if he plays as CB is his height. Martinez proves everyone that it's not always about size but honestly we're heavily relying on Varane & Casemiro when it comes to defending crosses especially set pieces. So it is very risky to play him as CB unless he's paired with someone who aerially dominant.
As a RB I think he will be very good playing as inverted fullback, but I do think ten Hag's fullback should be able to swing in some good crosses. Sometimes it's frustated me when I see Malacia, he's done a good job on defend, build up, counter press but when he has time and space to cross the quality is so poor. So for me that should be considered as well.
There are 2 players Erik Ten Hag truly loves. Frenkie De Jong and Timber. Timber is going to be one of the best defenders in Europe. He can play the ball with his left and right foot. He is pretty fast, and can read the game amazingly. ETH wanted Timber over Martinez.
If United sign Timber he is going in straight at RCB. He is not a RB and Ten Hag won't use him there. Same as Martinez and fans thinking he was gonna be played LB…
