How old is Newcastle United star?

Defender’s net worth and why he has four fingers on one hand

Newcastle United defender Dan Burn could make his World Cup debut for England against Croatia tonight, 17 years after making his professional debut.

The former Brighton man is the only Magpies player remaining in Thomas Tuchel’s squad following the withdrawal of Tino Livramento through injury and Anthony Gordon completing a transfer to FC Barcelona.

Burn beat competition from Manchester United star Harry Maguire, Real Madrid man Trent Alexander-Arnold and Newcastle teammate Lewis Hall to earn the spot on the plane this summer.

The defender has made just eight Three Lions appearances so far in his career, having been handed his debut by Tuchel in March 2025.

How old is Dan Burn?

Dan Burn is 34 years old. He was born on May 9, 1992 in the North East town of Blyth.

The Newcastle United star is the second-oldest player in the England squad at the World Cup. Brentford man Jordan Henderson is 36 years old – Bayern Munich talisman is the third oldest at 32 years old.

Burn was 32 years old when he made his England debut, making him the oldest Three Lions debutant since Kevin Davis in 2010.

The oldest ever England debutant was Alec Morten at the age of 41 when handed his first outing for the country in 1873.

Dan Burn salary and net worth

GiveMeSport report that Dan Burn is earning £70,000 per week at Newcastle United. It makes him the fifth highest earning defender in Tuchel’s side.

Manchester City star Marc Guehi takes home £250,000 per week, having been signed by the club in January for £20 million. Fellow Cityzen Nico O’Reilly is the lowest paid on £30,000 per week, but is just 21 years old.

In 2025, Burn was reported to have a net worth of around £17 million. The Magpies paid £13 million to sign the player from Brighton in 2022.

Why does Dan Burn only have four fingers?

England and World Cup fans may only notice that Burn has four fingers for the first time during the World Cup. It’s a story that Newcastle United supporters are familiar with.

The defender is without his ring finger on his right hand following an accident he endured as a teenager. At the age of 13, Burn was wearing a ring while climbing a fence and caught it on a spike, which led to losing a finger.

He said: “I’d been out with some friends and was showing off in front of a group of girls. I think a rabbit had got out into this community centre. I jumped a fence, not knowing there was a gate around the corner.

“I was wearing a ring I was given off my grandad, made off of an old shilling. The spike got caught in the ring and when I jumped off it ripped my finger off.”
