Rafa Mir has been found guilty of committing sexual assault
Former Wolves and Nottingham Forest striker Rafa Mir has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison after being found guilty of violent sexual assault and assault causing injury. The Provincial Court of Justice in Valencia confirmed his fate on Monday, following his initial arrest in 2024.
Prior to learning the verdict, Mir protested his innocence during a hearing at the end of May, where prosecutors requested a ten‑and‑a‑half‑year sentence. The alleged offences are said to have occurred in the early hours of September 1, 2024, after he met the victim at a nightclub and later took her to his residence.
Prosecutors claimed in their pre‑trial indictment that Mir “lifted her up and threw her into the pool fully clothed” before “grabbing her tightly” and kissing her face and neck with “lustful intent.”
The victim told the court: “He took me into the bathroom and locked the door. He started doing the same thing to me he had done at the swimming pool. That’s when I started crying and telling him to stop, that I wanted to leave. He didn’t stop.”
The 28‑year‑old was formally charged last October after an extensive investigation that began with his arrest in September 2024.
An examining judge concluded there was adequate evidence for the case to advance to trial and Mir has been ordered to pay more than £55,000 in damages.
Court officials said at the time that he had been indicted for “sexual assault with penetration involving the use of violence.”

“No-one else has been arrested at the moment but that may change later. The man who has been detained is currently in police custody.”
Footballer Pablo Jara, was also arrested and charged over a separate sexual assault on a female friend of the unnamed victim. He was tried on Monday and received a two‑and‑a‑half‑year sentence.
Mir spent three years in the Premier League after joining Wolves in January 2018, though he made only four appearances for the club – none in the top flight – before heading out on a series of loan spells.
He featured 13 times for Nottingham Forest during the 2019/20 campaign. He then joined Huesca on loan for the following season and later completed a permanent move to Sevilla in 2021.
Over the past two years, however, Mir has again been out on loan, this time to Valencia and Elche.
