However, with Manchester United also being heavily linked with Hall, the Magpies would need a huge bid to even consider selling the 21-year-old.
Cucurella completed a £51.8m move to Real Madrid yesterday, leaving a major hole on the left of new Blues boss Xabi Alonso’s first-choice back four.
Chelsea’s recruitment team have lined up a number of potential targets, with Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso and Bayer Leverkusen’s Alejandro Grimaldo having been linked. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown has been touted as another option, but is set to join Bayern Munich now the transfer window has officially reopened.
Chelsea officials are understood to regard Hall as the leading domestic candidate, and are weighing up their options when it comes to their former full-back.
Hall left Chelsea to join Newcastle in the summer of 2023, having initially joined the Stamford Bridge club’s academy during his primary-school days.
Newcastle agreed a deal worth around £35m, inclusive of add-ons, when they signed Hall three summers ago, with the youngster having progressed significantly since moving to St James’ Park.
He has become a Premier League regular with more than 100 senior appearances under his belt and an established England international who was unfortunate to miss out on a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.
He is contracted to Newcastle to the summer of 2029, so if Cucurella was valued at more than £50m, the Magpies will regard that as an absolute minimum if clubs are interested in Hall.
Manchester United are known to be long-term admirers, and are expected to be in the market for a new left-back this summer as improvements are made to Michael Carrick’s squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
Stories emerged earlier this month suggesting Hall was keen on a move to Old Trafford and unhappy at the way Eddie Howe handled him towards the end of last season, when he was switched across to right-back for a couple of games.
However, any suggestion of a breakdown in Hall’s relationship was Howe was strongly rejected by senior Newcastle sources, who are adamant that the defender regards his current head coach as a key figure in his progress and development.
Nevertheless, Magpies chief executive, David Hopkinson, has admitted that the club will consider selling some of their leading lights this summer, with Anthony Gordon already having completed an €80m move to Barcelona. Hall, Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento are the other senior players whose futures have been the subject of debate.
Newcastle have made one signing of their own so far this summer, bringing in goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims, and are in talks with Osasuna over the possible transfer of winger Victor Munoz.
