Dorset Police were alerted of the incident at around 12.46am and attended alongside the ambulance service.

As reported previously, a 68-year-old man was hospitalised with ‘life-threatening injuries’.

Following the ‘assault’, a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm without intent.

Club president, Neil Burdett, said that when the incident happened he was at home and received a call from the police.

He revealed that he wasn’t told much information from police, apart from that an incident took place, an individual was taken to hospital and that it’s an ongoing investigation.

Following the early-morning ‘assault’, Neil said that incidents such as these don’t happen at the club, struggling to remember when the last violent incident happened.

He added that they have a zero tolerance policy for violence at the site.

He said: “It never happens here. We have a zero tolerance for violence.”

Described as a ‘family-friendly’ social club, Parkstone Trades and Labour Club hosts regular events nights and has a function room available for the public to use.

Neil added that they heavily vet all club members, as well as those who book out the function room, to make sure there’s no ‘trouble’.

He said: “We vet them so there’s no trouble.

“We’re such a good club.”
