Manchester United will have the £15.9million compensation for Ruben Amorim slashed if he joins AC Milan, talkSPORT understands.
United sacked the Portuguese coach in January a day after they drew 1-1 with rivals Leeds United in the Premier League.

Amorim delivered a bombshell post-match press conference in which he insisted he wanted to be viewed as manager and not head coach of the club.
This quickly brewed uncertainty over his future at United, who chose to wield the axe less than 24 hours later.
United faced a sum of £15.9m in compensation to cover the cost of dismissing Amorim, whose contract was due to expire in mid-2027.
However, it’s understood that this eight-figure sum will be wiped if he becomes the new boss at Milan.

Amorim is the leading contender for the San Siro vacancy following the exit of Massimiliano Allegri.
A return to Benfica, where he spent nine years as a player, looked to be an option for him with Jose Mourinho heading to Real Madrid.
However, his representatives confirmed that he had not met with any clubs in Portugal, and that links with Benfica were just speculation.
Milan now looks set to be his next job, two weeks after the former Liverpool boss Arne Slot was linked with a move there.
Allegri was dismissed at the Serie A side after the team failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Milan finished fifth in the Italian top flight and one point off fourth-placed Como, with the seven-time European champions’ season being described as an ‘unequivocal failure’.

Arriving from Sporting Lisbon as successor to Erik ten Hag in November 2024, Amorim had a shaky start at United.
He won two of his first three matches but then went on a five-match losing run that included four consecutive defeats.
After a 3-1 loss against Brighton, Amorim claimed the team might be the worst in the club’s entire history.
United managed to reach the Europa League final, but were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur, who won their first trophy in 17 years as a result.
Their 15th-placed finish in the Premier League also meant that they missed out on qualification for Europe.
Amorim was backed in the summer transfer window with signings such as Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

However, although they spent over £200m, United had a disastrous start to the 2025/26 campaign.
They were sensationally beaten by League Two side Grimsby Town on penalties in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Amorim later picked up some impressive results, including a 2-1 away win against arch-rivals Liverpool.
But the writing was on the wall for the 41-year-old after his post-match outburst at Leeds.

He had a fractured relationship with director of football Jason Wilcox, who wanted him to be more tactically flexible.
Amorim’s exit also came only weeks after minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said he should be given the entirety of his three-year deal.
