Wolves have sacked Rob Edwards and will hand Cesar Peixoto the job of getting the club back on the front foot.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 46-year-old is leaving Gil Vicente, who he guided to sixth in Portugal’s Primeira Liga last season, to take charge at Molineux.
It will be the biggest role of his career and it is hoped his attacking football can translate to the Championship.
Chairman Nathan Shi described the call as extremely difficult, stressing the review after the season led the club to pursue a different football direction to better align style, identity and competitiveness. He thanked Edwards and his staff, and framed the move as a sporting decision aimed at giving Wolves the strongest chance of promotion and building sustainable success requiring clarity, alignment and courage.
Edwards departs with his coaching team, while it remains to be seen whether Rui Pedro Silva stays. The Portuguese coach previously worked as Nuno Espirito Santo’s assistant and returned in December after Edwards’ appointment.
Edwards replaced Vitor Pereira in November and lasted 211 days before being dismissed on Thursday morning. He was informed by phone after news had leaked on Wednesday evening that Peixoto had agreed a deal, and it is understood some senior staff were unaware of the change until it broke.
