What to expect hour by hour for June 9’s Blaydon Race

With final preparations in place for the Blaydon Race this Monday evening, runners will be counting down to the moment they are to gather at the Newcastle start line. As previously reported, the road closures have been confirmed for the annual event, along with full details of its timings and route and even the Geordie Supper in store for finishers once they cross the finish line in Blaydon.
No matter how prepared the runners themselves are for tackling the 5.9-mile Newcastle to Gateshead route, the one uncertainty for any event is always the weather. So, organisers, participants and spectators alike will be keeping a close eye on June 9’s weather forecast.
Here we bring the current hour-by-hour guide to what to expect weather-wise during the course of the run. Of course, conditions can always change so it will be a good idea to double-check before setting off.
This is the latest forecast from the Met Office and the predicted weather conditions for the Blaydon Race, as outlined below, take in a few hours before the 7.15pm start time on Newcastle Quayside. Later predictions for Blaydon and both areas towards the end of the event are included too for those who might want to stay out and celebrate their achievements.
In all, conditions are set to be cool – Blaydon being just a degree lower at times – with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers and this will no doubt suit some but perhaps not everyone. Showers are forecast throughout which can always make surfaces slippery but these are due to be only light.

4pm: 95% chance of rain, gentle breeze, 14 °C
5pm: 80% chance of rain, gentle 12mph breeze 14 °C
6pm: 90% chance of rain, a gentle 12mph breeze, and 13 °C
7pm: The race start time is 7.15pm and at this time there is a 90% chance of rain (80% over in Gateshead) and a gentle breeze, with expected temperatures around 12 °C
8pm: 80% chance of rain, gentle 10mph breeze, 11-12 °C
9pm: 80% chance of rain, breeze dropped to 9mph, 11 °C
10pm: 60-70% chance of rain, dropping breeze,. 11 °C
11pm: 30% chance of rain, 10°C
