They’ve so far beaten Alton, Bashledy (Rydal), Portsmouth and strongly fancied Bournemouth but, like the remainder of the league, have been hit by wet weather.

South Wilts’ opening game with the Hampshire Academy was abandoned and last weekend’s eagerly awaited joust with title holders St Cross Symondians was washed out altogether.

South Wilts have, however, opened their Premier League T20 Cup campaign on a positive note, with a resounding six-wicket Group South win over visiting Totton & Eling.

Australian Joe Merlino hit an unbeaten 73 in Totton’s 147-4, Archie Fairfax-Ross conceding only 10 runs off his four overs.

South Wilts wrapped up victory inside 14 overs, with Trishawn Francis and Josh Chippedale peppering the Bemerton boundary.

Francis (46) cleared the rope four times while South African Chippendale launched five maximums in his 50 off 23 balls.

James Degg chipped in with 28 not out.

South Wilts’ next South Group T20 match is at Fair Oak on Sunday, 2pm.

George Allom, an all-rounder from Nottinghamshire Premier League club Papplewick and Linby, has joined South Wilts, boosting Ben Draper’s first team pool of players.
