Emi Martínez’s future at Aston Villa has come into doubt once again. The latest reports indicate that Juventus has opened talks to explore a potential move for the 33-year-old this summer. If a suitable offer comes in for him, then Villa will consider his departure.
The Italian giants had previously agreed personal terms with Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, but the Merseyside club blocked the move. This dramatic collapse has forced the Serie A outfit to look elsewhere, with Villa’s number one their absolute priority target.
Unai Emery is said to be keen for the Argentine to remain at Aston Villa, however, their financial problems may force their hand. They are tight with UEFA’s Squad Cost Rules (SCR) and Football Earnings Rules, meaning a sale would alleviate some of that pressure, so they can invest in other areas of the pitch.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have already initiated contact to explore a deal for the World Cup-winning shot-stopper. The Turin side is determined to secure an elite, experienced number one this summer, and Martínez perfectly fits the profile.
Salary could be a problem

Juve’s alternative option, Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, remains on their shortlist but demands much lower financial commitments. However, the club seems keen to explore the Martínez avenue fully before settling for alternatives.

Although Martínez’s departure would be a huge blow, the Villans have replacements lined up. Manchester City’s James Trafford and Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen are among the names on the list.
Whilst they are not yet at his level, both of them offer long-term stability, which is crucial for Villa’s aspirations to remain among Europe’s elite.
