Xabi Alonso doesn’t officially start work at Chelsea until the 1st of July, but we’d imagine he’s actually been on the job to some degree since the day he was announced as our new manager.
He will have been watching videos from last season, assessing his squad and joining in transfer discussions with the sporting structure.

Today the BBC revealed that he had taken things to the next level by actually visiting Cobham, where he and his coaches will be getting to work in a few weeks. They say he “visited the base… to better understand the environment so he can hit the ground running when he begins his role.”
They note that he was joined by the coaching staff he’s bringing to the club – Sebastian Parrilla, Alberto Encinas, Benat Labaien and Ismael Camenforte Lopez.
There is still a World Cup to enjoy before things get serious, but the excitement around Alonso is starting to build with news like this making it all seem suddenly very real.
In other news…
Maxime Esteve is one of the relegated players attracting Premier League attention, and Chelsea are now being linked with the Burnley defender.
Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for Alejandro Garnacho, which should perhaps not be a surprise given his struggles in his first year at the club.
