Nottingham Forest fan Carl Froch says he would much rather Turki Alalshikh invested in his beloved Reds than their bitter rivals Derby County.

Boxing promoter and billionaire Alalshikh is reported to have held talks on a proposed deal with the Rams, the details of which remain private.

Derby owner David Clowes has been open to investment for some time, although any agreement is likely to see him retain some influence at the club he rescued.

The English Football League and the Independent Football Regulator are aware of Alalshikh’s interest and he followed numerous Derby-related social media accounts.

Former four-time world champion Froch admits he is no expert about football – but he has witnessed Alalshikh’s impact on boxing.

“Well, all I understand about football is it’s all about the money and Turki Alalshikh’s got a lot of money,” he told Hard Rock Bet.

“So, you’ve got a lot of money and put it in football and buy a lot of good players, and you’ve got a good football team, haven’t you? That’s my generic, basic understanding of the sport.

“He is worth a fortune. He could go into Derby County and buy all the ******* best players. So, yeah, he could, to answer your question, from that limited knowledge of football.

“There’s no reason to say that Turki couldn’t do something in football. He has put on the biggest fights in the world since getting into boxing and he’s a successful man.

“If Derby is up for sale, if he bought it, then yeah, I’m sure he could take them to the Premier League, 100% but Derby is the main rival to Nottingham Forest so I would rather he buys Nottingham Forest.

“But Turki is a great character and has a great vision, like I said with boxing, the events he has put on in the Pyramids and Times Square and wherever else.”
