Lewis Hall was a rare shining light in what was an otherwise underwhelming season for Newcastle United across all fronts.
The former Chelsea man established himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and quickly became an indispensable asset for Eddie Howe.
However, immediately after the season ended, Hall emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United, who are looking to fine-tune their squad after a strong showing under Michael Carrick.
And now, Luke Edwards has provided an update on the 21-year-old’s situation, who is still reeling from his omission from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Anthony Gordon has already joined Barcelona and Sandro Tonali has been linked with a Newcastle United departure, so Howe clearly has a problem or two to solve.
And Hall’s links with Manchester United only added to the Magpies’ misery as they prepare for an important summer transfer window in terms of incomings.
There has been a lot of chatter in recent days, but Edwards has poured cold water over claims that Hall has asked to leave.

In fact, he emphatically revealed that Newcastle believe there is ‘no situation’ involving the Englishman, which is proof that talks of a potential transfer aren’t even being entertained at the moment.
It is also worth noting that Edwards was bullish about Alexander Isak remaining at Newcastle United last season, despite Liverpool’s well-documented interest. And we all know how that turned out, so here’s to hoping he is actually right this time around.
Hall leaving Newcastle United a non-starter
Hall won’t be at the World Cup but will instead focus on resting and reporting fresh as ever for pre-season.
He’s an integral part of the squad for the present and the future and is the kind of player Howe should keep and build the team around with a handful of important additions in the transfer market.
Lewis Hall is what many expected Alejandro Balde to eventually become.
The profile is still gold. There’s still every chance Balde reaches those heights.
But if Barcelona ever decide to move on, Lewis Hall should be the only replacement they seriously consider.

His partnership with Gordon on the left flank was fruitful, to say the least, as the two Englishmen combined to devastating effect over the years.
And now, with Gordon having departed, Newcastle must sign a winger who can complement Hall’s crossing and his bombing runs up and down the flank.
The 21-year-old grew up a Newcastle United fan and hasn’t asked to leave the club. He’s where he wants to be and will hopefully remain at the club for the long haul as the Magpies aim to take the next step in Howe’s project.
