Leeds United have announced a contract extension for club captain Ethan Ampadu, tying him down until 2030.

The Whites have always quietly gone about business under the 49ers, since their takeover of the club in 2023. Included in that was chairman Paraag Marathe stating that he ‘negotiates contracts in his sleep’.

So, no pressure when faced with a revered club captain entering the final year of his deal at Elland Road. There was simply no way that Leeds could let Ethan Ampadu’s contract continue to dwindle.

Leeds United announce new Ethan Ampadu contract until 2030

In the words of Marathe himself, it’s rare that a club themselves are able to announce a signing or fresh agreement with a player before it’s been reported.

However, that was the case with Ampadu’s new contract. The Leeds chairman spoke to local media to reveal that Ampadu has signed a new United deal, running until 2030.

Signed for £7million in the summer of 2023, Ampadu has cemented himself as one of United’s best players over the past two decades.

Now, the club can breathe a little easier knowing that any supposed interest in his signature can be swatted away with relative ease.

Leeds United’s best bit of summer business is already complete with Ethan Ampadu contract

The transfer window doesn’t open for another 11 days, but this is probably the best bit of business that Leeds could have done this summer.

There is no Premier League consolidation at Elland Road without Ampadu captaining the side the way he has done.

He has been absolutely imperious and only seems to be getting better. What’s been worrying is that his brilliance is becoming mainstream knowledge amongst neutrals and pundits.

Leeds fans have known he’s destined for the top ever since his debut. However, clubs are now doubt wising up to just how good the 25-year-old has been in West Yorkshire.

This new deal should dispel any lingering concerns that the club aren’t going to be ambitious this summer. It also plays down the notion that Leeds will be selling key assets in order to fund transfers.

We’re building on what we’ve already got, and Ampadu is thankfully at the heart of it all.
