Local communities invited to join boards to decide regeneration plans

Residents of Bournemouth and Poole are being encouraged to participate in shaping a significant £60 million investment in the area through the Government’s pride in place programme.

The neighbourhoods of West Howe, Boscombe West, and Hamworthy West have been selected for £20 million each in funding purposed for regeneration efforts.

This programme aims to revitalise high streets, enhance public spaces, and bolster community pride.

Funds will be distributed over the next decade and are safeguarded from changes in government.

Cllr Sandra Moore, BCP Council Cabinet member for communities and partnerships, said, “Being part of the programme is a great way to give back and do an awful lot of good for your friends, neighbours and everyone who lives alongside you.”

Bournemouth East MP Tom Hayes said, “With this £20m, I believe we could see Kings Park Nursery brought back into community use, improved play equipment in Churchill Gardens, more street art and public landmarks, floodlit 4G football facilities, and so much more.”

To ensure the spending aligns with local needs, each neighbourhood will establish a board, chaired by an independent chair working collaboratively with residents, local MPs, and community organisations.

Local residents can now apply to join these boards or take on the role of neighbourhood chair.

Bournemouth West MP Jessica Toale added, “For too long, communities like West Howe have been overlooked and dismissed by those in power. I have consistently raised this in Parliament and championed the incredible community groups trying to make a difference in the area.”

Poole MP Neil Duncan-Jordan urged community participation, stating: “This money will change people’s lives – but we need local residents to get involved and have their say.”

Residents interested in contributing to the planning process can submit applications now to join the initiative.
