Which players from relegated Premier League clubs could Everton target?

Current Everton stars Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski, Dwight McNeil and Idrissa Gueye (first time around) were all signed from clubs who had just been relegated from the Premier League so which players from teams who have gone down this year might prove handy buys for the Blues?

Let’s take a look…

With their expensively assembled squad and a need to cut the bills at the 62,500 capacity London Stadium, David Moyes’ previous employers West Ham United arguably have the most gifted number of stars that could be plundered.

The jewel in the crown is England international and captain Jarrod Bowen, who Moyes gave a big break to in the Premier League, signing him in January 2020 and then being rewarded by the winger netting the winning goal in the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final in 2023 as the Irons ended their 43-year trophy drought.

Another Moyes buy was Tomas Soucek, who claimed he was wanted by the Blues in the final weeks of last summer’s transfer window. The Czech captain is 31 now but when he netted in West Ham’s 2-1 win over Everton in April that was his fourth goal against them.

Similarly, there will be question marks over how much 34-year-old striker Callum Wilson has got left in the tank but at least playing for the Blues would stop him scoring against them having netted his ninth of his career in their aforementioned recent clash with his stoppage time winner. Perhaps Matheus Fernandes, who became the Hammers’ third most expensive signing when he joined from Southampton for over £40million last summer, was trying to help Everton when he dangled his arm out when marking Thierno Barry for what the Premier League later admitted should have been a penalty, could he be worth a punt?

Crysencio Summerville is a livewire on the wing previously linked with the Blues before he joined West Ham while a full-back pair could also be of interest, On the left, El Hadji Malick Diouf put the ball into the box that Moyes’ men failed to deal with for the winner and at 21 could provide youthful competition for Vitalii Mykolenko.

Over on the right, where Everton really do need someone, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has already been linked with a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium in recent days but the ECHO understands that the Blues are not actively pursuing the DR Congo international at this moment in time.

Wolverhampton Wanderers also have a few tasty-looking talents. Andre and Joao Gomes are both full Brazil internationals with 13 and 10 caps respectively while fellow midfielder Mateus Mane, 18, showed Everton just what an exciting prospect he is with his impressive equaliser in the 1-1 draw in January.

Looking at right-back again, Belgium-born Cameroon international Jackson Tchatchoua was linked with the Blues before his move from Hellas Verona to Molineux last summer. It remains to be seen what playing 31 Premier League matches in Wolves’ defence this season does for the 24-year-old in terms of his prospects.

Over at Burnley, it’s perhaps a case of slimmer pickings. Maxime Esteve is a 6ft 4in left-footed centre-back who has already been linked with Everton after a couple of seasons at Turf Moor. Dutchman Zian Flemming is a forward with a one-in-three strike rate who netted 11 goals in a poor Clarets side this term, but would a player born in the same year as Beto really be an upgrade on what the Blues have already got?

The likes of Marcus Edwards, Hannibal and Jacob Bruun Larsen have all been linked with Everton in the past, but that ship appears to have sailed for them given their recent displays.
