Sizewell C and Ipswich Town Foundation are teaming up to bring new education and personal development opportunities to Leiston and Ipswich – benefitting hundreds of young people and adults in the area over the next three years.
Thanks to the new partnership with Sizewell C, Ipswich Town Foundation – the charitable arm of Ipswich Town Football Club – will be able to introduce its Premier League Primary Stars and Premier League Inspires football programmes to Leiston schools and extend the programmes to more schools in Ipswich.
The three-year agreement will also see the Foundation deliver five free-to-access Soccer Schools per year in Leiston, establish Turn up and Play football sessions for adults experiencing mental health-related challenged in Leiston and Ipswich, deliver health and wellbeing sessions for the Sizewell C workforce, and expand its DIVERT outreach programme to another primary school in Ipswich.
As Ipswich Town Foundation’s official outreach partner, Sizewell C have also ensured that at least two of Ipswich Town FC’s newly promoted Premier League stars will annually visit Leiston as part of community initiatives with the Foundation over the next three years.
Nigel Cann, CEO of Sizewell C, said: “Football is such a powerful way of reaching people and delivering life-changing opportunities. The Ipswich Town Foundation has been doing an incredible job improving lives and aspirations in this county for several years – and I’m delighted that we can support them to do even more.
“By delivering educational programmes in our host town of Leiston, as well as extending their work in Ipswich, the Foundation could be transformational for lots of people here. It’s going to be a really important partnership, and I can’t wait to see the impact it’s going to have in our region.”
Since relaunching in 2019, the Ipswich Town Foundation has been providing impactful and inclusive activities to improve the health, skills, opportunities, and lives of all generations in communities across Suffolk and its borders.
They deliver a range of programmes, activities, and initiatives to address the needs of the community, reaching over 9,000 young people and vulnerable adults across 29 diverse programmes delivered on a weekly basis.
Its Premier League Primary Stars programme – which has already access nearly 2,000 children in primary schools in Suffolk – uses the inspiration of Ipswich Town Football Club and the Premier League to improve and enhance Physical Education (PE), PSHE, English and Maths – and develop crucial skills and values that lead children to lead healthy, active, well-rounded lives. While its Premier League Inspires programme uses the power of football to inspire young people aged 11-to-18 to develop the personal skills and positive attitudes needed to succeed in life.
Dan Palfrey, Director of Ipswich Town Foundation, said: “Firstly, a huge thank you to the team at Sizewell C. Their investment in, and belief in our work will have a hugely positive impact on young people and adults in Leiston and Ipswich over the next three years. We know how powerful football can be as a tool for engagement, allowing us to reach participants in a unique way and create meaningful outcomes through the power of Ipswich Town Football Club.
“We look forward to working alongside Sizewell C, Alde Valley Academy, and Leiston Primary School over the next three years to drive positive outcomes for young people in Leiston.”
Earlier in the year, Sizewell C announced that construction is underway on a major new sports development at Alde Valley Academy in Leiston, thanks to funding from the nuclear power project.
The new development will deliver a high-quality, FIFA-approved 3G artificial grass pitch for football, and a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) for tennis, netball, and basketball. Work is expected to be completed later this month. This facility will be a focal point of the new partnership in Leiston.
