The World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico will begin next week, and a number of Man Utd players will feature.

Manchester United are set to benefit from a FIFA pot of £263.6million for clubs supplying players to the World Cup, which will be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.

The tournament kicks off next week, and United will be heavily represented, with several of their players hoping to create history with their respective nations on the biggest stage of all.

United will benefit financially from their players’ involvement at the World Cup. FIFA increased funding for their club benefits programme two years ago, which covers qualifying fixtures for the tournament, the play-off fixtures that followed, and the World Cup itself.

FIFA’s club benefit programme means that clubs will be paid per day for each of their players involved. The players don’t have to get on the pitch, with payment beginning on the date they are released for international duty and continuing through to their final match in the competition.

Last year, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “The enhanced edition of the FIFA club benefits programme for the World Cup is going a step further by recognising financially the huge contribution that so many clubs and their players around the world make to the staging of both the qualifiers and the final tournament.

“A record $355million will be distributed via the CBP to clubs for the release of their players, and this reinforces our solid collaboration with the European Club Association and clubs worldwide as we all look forward to a groundbreaking and globally inclusive edition of the World Cup.”

FIFA have not announced the daily rate for this summer’s World Cup, but the most recent World Cup in Qatar in 2022 saw clubs receive $10,950 (£8,131) per day, a figure that can be used to roughly calculate how much United will bank this summer.

Altay Bayindir is in the preliminary squad selected by Turkey, while fellow goalkeeper Senne Lammens has been selected by Belgium. Noussair Mazraoui will represent Morocco, while Lisandro Martinez will play for Argentina.

Manuel Ugarte has made Uruguay’s squad, despite struggling at United this season, while Amad will represent the Ivory Coast. Tyler Fletcher has also been drafted into Scotland’s squad after a late injury.

Matheus Cunha has been chosen to represent Brazil, the World Cup’s most successful side, who have won the tournament five times. The departing Casemiro will play alongside Cunha for Brazil.

Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes have been named in Portugal’s squad, and Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford made the cut for England.

Including Casemiro, whose contract officially expires at the end of June, United will be represented by 13 players at the World Cup.
