Arsenal are ready to step up their interest in a move to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The Gunners have enjoyed a historic campaign after winning the Premier League for the first time in 22 years this season, finishing seven points ahead of Manchester City, while they are also preparing to compete against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest this weekend in the Champions League final, as they look to win that competition for the first time in their history.

But Mikel Arteta is not ready to settle for what they have already achieved, and he is now pushing the club to make a statement signing this summer.

Arsenal Pushing to Sign Morgan Rogers

Morgan Rogers

Rogers, who has been described as ‘world-class’ by Gary Neville, enjoyed an excellent campaign for Aston Villa, registering 14 goals and 12 assists in all competitions as they finished fourth in the Premier League and won the Europa League, where he scored in the final.

His performances have also earned him a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup this summer, ahead of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, and have attracted the interest of a number of top clubs across the country and in Europe.

Rogers is understood to be open to a move away, with Villa not against a sale if the right offer comes in, although they would prefer to keep him, and value him at around £100m.

That has opened the door for the newly-crowned champions to accelerate their interest, with talkSPORT reporting that initial talks have already been held between the Gunners and the player’s camp about a move.

Arteta is understood to be the driving force behind the deal, and wants Arsenal to seal the transfer as a statement of intent to the rest of the league, while beating off competition from the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea, and Liverpool for his signature.

Rogers Fit Into Arsenal Squad Tricky

Rogers is likely to have a starring role for England this summer playing as a number ten, and his best form for Villa this season has come in that role too. But Arsenal already have Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze, Ethan Nwaneri, Leandro Trossard, and Max Dowman who are capable of playing there.

Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli could well be on the move this summer, but Rogers is a very different type of player, and it would be interesting to see where Arteta would fit him into the squad should he arrive.

Right now, the player would surely think twice about a move as he would want to be continue to play regularly and develop, and that isn’t guaranteed at Arsenal. But should their interest become concrete, this is a big situation to keep an eye on.
