Arsenal fans were seen in home sections of Selhurst Park for their side’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace and subsequent title-winning celebrations on the final day of the Premier League season.
Many of those supporters, who celebrated the trophy lift after the match, were in the area of the Arthur Wait stand next to the official away end.
The Metropolitan police confirmed to The Athletic that two arrests were made for people impersonating stewards, wearing high-visibility jackets.
Before the game, in an attempt to prevent Arsenal fans from being in the home ends, Palace had put in place stringent restrictions for purchasing tickets.
In a bid to deter Palace ticket holders from selling to Arsenal fans, those restrictions included suspending the ability for season ticket holders to share their tickets as has been permitted throughout the season, with season ticket plus holders ordinarily able to share with anyone within certain parameters.
There were also strict requirements for those looking to buy on the ticket exchange platform, on which hundreds of Palace fans who were unable to attend had listed their tickets for sale. Many went unsold due to the limits, which included only being on sale to those who held a Palace membership before December last year.
Any supporters requesting a reprint of their ticket had to show photo identification, while the club said they had also put in place identification checks on the turnstiles.
Last week, The Athletic reported that away end tickets to see Arsenal lift the Premier League trophy were being listed for up to £45,000 ($60,296) on resale websites.
There were strong warnings on Palace’s website that “any supporter found sharing a ticket will be banned from buying a season ticket or membership next season”.
An increased police presence was in place and officers guarded at least one of the entrances to the stadium in attempt to prevent any unauthorised entry.
While the presence of away fans in the home ends was apparent during the game, the scale became clearer by full-time and when Arsenal began their celebrations.
Despite those arrests, the game appeared to pass without any other incident.
