The Red Devils could focus on former United star Elliot Anderson in the summer transfer window
Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest and Sandro Tonali of Newcastle
Manchester United are reportedly ready to make their major transfer move this summer, and it could be good news for Newcastle United.
The Red Devils are said to be close to making a bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, with the former Newcastle star set to leave the City Ground in the summer window.
That could mean that Man United drop their interest in Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, with the Italian the subject of transfer speculation over the last few months.
Michael Carrick’s side are looking to replace the departing Casemiro this summer, and had identified Tonali and Anderson as two candidates, along with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.

It now appears that Anderson is their prime target, although rivals Manchester City could yet make a move for the Geordie star, who is set to be a key player for England at the World Cup.
City boss Pep Guardiola is said to be a big fan of both Anderson and Tonali, although talk from the North West suggests they are set to agree a new contract for Spanish midfield star Rodri, which will reduce their need for new additions.
Real Madrid were monitoring Rodi’s situation, as well as that of Tonali and Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez as they look to boost their options.
While Tonali may find it difficult to ignore interest from the La Liga giants, Fernandez has spoken of a desire to live in in the Spanish capital, something which he and his agent later apologised to Chelsea for.
Tonali has kept his counsel over his future, although his agent Giuseppe Riso has suggested they will review his situation at the end of the season, with a lack of Champions League football a worrying concern for United.
With Italy failing to qualify for the World Cup, he will not have the focus of international football once the season ends, with speculation over his future likely to increase unless a statement is made either way.
However, Elliot Anderson’s next step could be telling when it comes to interest in Newcastle’s No 8.
