Southampton manager Tonda Eckert or technical director Johannes Spors could be handed a suspension if they are deemed to have sanctioned the alleged SpyGate operation that has embroiled the club.
The Saints secured their spot at Wembley this week following a victory over Middlesbrough in their play-off semi-final. A late extra-time strike from Shea Charles proved decisive, though the win has been overshadowed by accusations of espionage prior to the first leg at the Riverside Stadium over the weekend.
Southampton have been charged by the EFL with misconduct after Boro reportedly apprehended a member of their analysis team conducting surveillance at their Rockliffe training facility. The incident has raised questions about whether the south coast outfit will face Hull City for promotion to the Premier League.

The hearing, which has yet to be scheduled, will be overseen by an independent disciplinary commission. Among the potential sanctions, should Southampton be found culpable, could be match bans for Eckert or Spors, according to The Sun.
The suspected individual has been named as intern William Salt. He was reportedly photographed concealed behind a tree using his mobile phone to observe the Teessiders’ training session before being challenged, reports the Mirror.
Salt has previously been photographed on the shoulder of Saints boss Eckert when he celebrated his Sky Bet Championship manager of the month accolade in February. He has been absent from more recent images. Middlesbrough are poised to present their case and are believed to hold details of a credit card used by the individual at the golf club adjacent to Rockliffe, part of the complex owned by Boro chairman Steve Gibson, which could potentially form part of a paper trail to strengthen their argument. Gibson has enlisted the services of high-profile sports lawyer Nick De Marco, with the Teesside club pushing for the EFL hearing to commence before the weekend in order to establish clarity.
Kim Hellberg, who delivered an emotional response following Middlesbrough’s season coming to an end at St Mary’s on Tuesday night, and his players continue to train as the possibility remains that Southampton could be expelled from the play-off final, which could see them reinstated.
In an embarrassing U-turn, Southampton have been compelled to remove all ticketing updates that were incorrectly posted on Wednesday evening, in which they shared information regarding the final. The club have attributed the ticketing confusion to the fact they were supposed to release details simultaneously with fellow finalists Hull City.
