The Bundesliga club are interested in Anthony Gordon but Newcastle have no intention of a cheap saleAnthony Gordon could leave Newcastle United this summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, according to reports, and that could be good news for Everton

Newcastle United sources have played down talk that Anthony Gordon has “agreed personal terms” on a move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The big claim on Talksport was dismissed as “not true” by United sources, but the forward could still leave this summer. For now, any suggestions of the situation being deemed as advanced as suggested has been described as “highly speculative”.

CEO David Hopkinson made one thing crystal clear back in April on sales when he said: ‘We haven’t got an overall strategy with regards players out, necessarily.

“We think through what players might or might not want to do this summer. But if an Isak-like scenario presents itself again, any player under contract is going to leave on our terms and we’re going to maximise the opportunity that might represent for the club.”

And Chronicle Live has been told that no fee has been shaken on by Newcastle or Bayern despite constant reports from Germany that a deal is close. Newcastle want at least £74million for Gordon, and as things stand, they have not come to any fee agreement. However, there is an acceptance behind the scenes that Gordon will go, and his absence from the field of play is speaking louder than any agent or club officials.

Given Newcastle must pay Everton 15% of any profit made from the Gordon deal, the sale has to be worthwhile for the Magpies. Newcastle paid £45m for Gordon and would not be picking up any major windfall if they fee is below £74m.

Gordon has not pushed for a move or handed in a transfer request, but Newcastle’s coaching team must also box clever, knowing that the Scouser’s sale could unlock summer spending power early in the window. Given Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson has already gone public on the fact Newcastle must sell to buy this summer, the prospect of Gordon being sold is not fresh news.

It is believed that there is interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, three clubs that have previously looked into signing the England international. The Gordon saga is the last thing Howe really needs as he tries to steer Newcastle into a respectable position in the last two games but also

When asked about Gordon, Howe, speaking at his post-game Press conference, said: “Obviously, he has returned from an injury. I am looking at the team, and I am pleased with how the team has performed in the last three games. So I didn’t want to make too many changes.”

In a later radio interview, when asked about Gordon, he said: “It was tactical. The team has performed well in Anthony’s absence, we have gone with a bit more solidity with Joelinton playing wide, one winger on one side to strengthen us defensively as we weren’t happy with how we were defending.

“Since January, we have been disappointed with a strange structure. Ant has come back to fitness and is training well but also I am looking at the future.”

Gordon was expected to train ahead of the clash with West Ham with the latest Bayern stories put to his represenatives.
