Marcin Buryta, of Conifer Road, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Piotr Pruszak during the incident in February, which saw a huge police presence descend on the quiet Coxford street.

Police were called to reports that a man suffered a gunshot wound at a property on Conifer Road at around 8pm on February 11.

Mr Pruszak, 45, was found with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Buryta, 31, appeared at Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday, where he denied the charge of murder.

He appeared in the dock wearing a grey suit, a maroon shirt, and a black tie, and was provided with a Polish interpreter. He spoke only to confirm his details and to thank the judge at the end of the hearing.

Judge William Mousley KC adjourned the case for trial at Winchester Crown Court on October 5.

It is expected to take four weeks, and Buryta will be remanded in custody.

Addressing Buryta, Judge Mousley said: “Between now and a date in June, with the help of your lawyers, you must provide a written statement which explains why you are not guilty.

“You are remanded in custody, and you can go with the officer.”

Following the incident in February, the entirety of Conifer Road was cordoned off by police until the afternoon of the following day.

Shortly after Piotr’s death, his family released a tribute.

It said: “With deep sadness we are saying our last goodbye to beloved son and brother Piotr.

“You will live forever in our memories and in the love we share.”

Writing in Polish, they added: “It is with deep sadness that the parents and brother of their beloved son Piotr say goodbye.”

On February 15, a 57-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting aggravated burglary in connection with this incident.

Police have confirmed that they remain under investigation.
