Melissa Tobin was driving her Fiat Panda along London Road from the Copdock interchange towards Ipswich town centre when she was involved in a collision with a van driven by Aaron Thompson, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
Miss Tobin was crossing a set of green traffic light at a junction near the Holiday Inn when the driver’s side of her car was hit by Thompson’s van, said Godfried Duah, prosecuting.
Miss Tobin suffered an open fracture to her elbow and spent five days in Ipswich Hospital before being transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where she underwent surgery to have pins and a metal plate inserted in the joint.
Thompson, 36, of Brook Street, Glemsford, has denied causing serious injury by careless driving on August 21 2023.
Thompson told police he had been heading out of Ipswich and had turned right towards Hadleigh at the junction where the collision happened when the lights were green.
He claimed that Miss Tobin must have gone through a red light.
The trial continues.
