Lux Play will launch at Unit 7 of the Sovereign Centre on May 23, offering a multi-level soft play area alongside more than 40 arcade machines aimed at children of all ages.

The venture has been brought together by a group of local business owners, including founder Sarbaz Roushbaini, known as Baz, alongside construction lead Martin MacGillivray.

Jack Oswell and Rares Cucos join the team as lead engineers in arcade systems from JNR Innovations, and Connor Denton supports as chief coordinator from Masterclass Exteriors.

Martin, who runs Masterclass Exteriors, said the project came together unexpectedly after a chance meeting.

“I’m a builder and this is totally different from anything I’ve ever done,” he said.

“It actually started over a key. I bought a van and the key didn’t work, so I went to Baz’s key shop in the Sovereign Centre.

“We got chatting about his idea and I offered my expertise.”

Before long Martin joined Baz in his new business venture.

He added: “It’s out of my comfort zone, but it’s been stressful and exciting at the same time. We’ve been full-on for the past couple of months getting everything ready.”

The centrepiece of the venue is a three-level soft play structure measuring 11 metres long, 4.5 metres wide and 4.8 metres tall, alongside a dedicated baby play area.

The site will also feature arcade attractions including racing games, claw machines and 2p machines, as well as pool tables aimed at older children.

The machines will be cashless and operate on a token system.

Martin said the team, all of whom have children, wanted to create a venue that was more affordable for families.

“We are all family men and we know how expensive soft play can be,” he said.

“We wanted to make it cheaper but still good quality so families on a budget can enjoy it.”

Prices will start at £4 per child during a pre-launch offer, rising to £8 afterwards, while baby sessions will cost £2 before opening and £4 thereafter.

Adults will be admitted free of charge, with up to two adults allowed per child.

A café serving hot and cold food, drinks and milkshakes will also be available.

To mark the opening, every child attending on launch day will receive a raffle ticket for a prize, and discounted arcade credits are available via the Lux Play website ahead of opening.

Martin added: “There’s nothing quite like this locally. We wanted to create something that has something for everyone, from babies right up to teenagers.”
