Danny Welbeck has been ranked as the best-value attacking player of the 2025-26 Premier League season with each of his goal contributions costing just £248,571.
A study by Bally Bet compared the current market values of players on Transfermarkt with the number of combined goals and assists they have provided.
Dividing their transfer worth by goal contributions produced a cost-per-contribution. And it was Dat Guy who led the way amongst forwards and attacking midfielders who have made a minimum of 10 goal contributions and 20 appearances.
Another reason why 2025-26 is best ever Welbeck season
Welbeck has a market value of £3.48 million. Although most Brighton fans would probably agree that Transfermarkt figure should be multiplied by 10 at least.
Dat Guy has scored 13 times and provided one assist so far for 14 total goal contributions. Working out at £248,751 per contribution. Or roughly the same amount the Albion paid to sign Gordon Greer from Swindon Town in the summer of 2010.
The MelBet research provides yet more evidence of what a fantastic 2025-26 campaign Welbeck has enjoyed. His 13 goal haul makes it the best Premier League season of his career.
It also means he has scored double figures in back-to-back campaigns for the first time. Welbeck plundered 10 from 35 appearances in 2024-25.

He is the joint-highest scoring English player in the Premier League alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, four of Calvert-Lewin’s total have come from the penalty spot.
Welbeck has scored just one penalty (and missed two against Everton and West Ham United… but we will keep quiet about those).
Leaving Dat Guy as the second-highest scoring Englishman playing in a top European league after Harry Kane at Bayern Munich.
Just the 33 Bundesliga goals from 30 matches, 14 Champions League goals in 13 appearances and seven DFB Pokal goals from five games for the England captain.
Heaven forbid Kane gets injured before or during the World Cup. Unless Thomas Tuchel finally sees sense and puts Welbeck on the plane…
Who was behind Welbeck in the best-value attacking players rankings?
Another veteran forward followed Welbeck in the best-value attacking players rankings. 35-year-old Fulham striker Raul Jimenez has nine goals, three assists and exactly the same £3.48 million valuation as Dat Guy. Giving him a goal contribution cost of £290,000.
Next comes Zian Flemming of Burnley. His 10 contributions mean he has been involved in over a quarter of the Clarets’ goals this season at a cost of £1.04 million each.
More than four times that of Welbeck and Jimenez. Further underlining just what good value the two golden oldies have provided Seagulls and Cottagers.
Bruno Fernandes is fourth with 28 goal involvements, a value of £34.8 million and a cost of £1.24 million per contribution.
The top five is rounded off by another Burnley player. Jaidon Anthony has 12 contributions for his £15.6 million evaluation, costing approximately £1.3 million per goal.
Whilst it would be logical to stop looking at the list beyond the top five, the players sixth and seventh might be of interest to Welbeck and Brighton fans.
Leandro Trossard has 12 goal involvements which work out at £1.45 million each based on his £17.4 million valuation. Funnily enough, that is roughly the price the Albion paid to sign Trossard from Genk in 2019.
Dat Guy’s potential direct rival for a place in the England squad follows. 13 goals and no assists for Calvert-Lewin work out at £1.47 million per contribution from a value of £19.1 million.
Welbeck aging like a fine Malbec… or should it be Malbeck?
Not only is Welbeck the best-value attacking player of the 2025-26 Premier League season. But he shows no sign of slowing down either.
Dat Guy seems to be getting better as time passes, aging like a fine Malbec… or should it be Malbeck? Hence why it was a no-brainer for Brighton to sign Welbeck to a new 12-month contract back in March.
He recently surpassed 50 Brighton goals and is on the verge of making his 200th Albion appearance. He has now played more games for Brighton than any other club in his career. And by a considerable distance. Welbeck turned out 142 times for Manchester United and 126 for Arsenal.
Dat Guy is very much a Seagull. And the Albion are lucky to have him.
