Former Ipswich Town defender Toto Nsiala has helped Bury win the NPL West division title and is being retained by the non-league side for the 2026/27 season.

The 34-year-old joined the Shakers back in January after a brief spell away from football, having left League Two side Shrewsbury Town for family seasons in October last year.

Nsiala has now been promoted for the third time in his career as Anthony Johnson’s side were crowned champions after a 3-0 at Atherton Colls on the final day of the 2025/26 season.

The Greater Manchester based club continue their climb back up the football ladder after being expelled from the Football League in 2019.

They have now secured promotion to the NPL Premier Division, the seventh tier of English football, after back-to-back promotions.

The former DR Congo international is set to remain at Gigg Lane after being retained for next season.

Nsiala made a total of 78 appearances for the Blues, scoring one goal, having arrived in Suffolk with Jon Nolan as part of a £2m double deal from Shrewsbury in the summer of 2018, both reunited with their former boss Paul Hurst.

He departed Portman Road in January 2022 to have spells at Fleetwood and Burton Albion.
