Ghana international and former Brighton and Hove Albion star Tariq Lamptey ended his stint at Fiorentina after just 25 minutes on the pitch, the Serie A side announced on Monday.

“ACF Fiorentina announces that Tariq Lamptey’s contract with the club has been terminated by mutual consent,” the club said in a statement.

The defender had arrived in Italy from Brighton for USD 6 million in 2025, having spent five seasons at the Premier League side. Though hopes were high for the former Chelsea prodigy, he struggled for fitness throughout his maiden season outside England.

He came off the bench for a few minutes against Napoli and made his first and only start against Como, wherein he played 22 minutes before rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament. He did not play again for the club.

Lamptey’s contract termination comes at an unfortunate time, with Ghana’s squad selection looming for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
