It has been an interesting few months for Enzo Fernandez, and as the summer approaches, his future will continue to come under the microscope. But Chelsea have a plan in place.
All the noise surrounding Chelsea at the moment is about the club’s next choice of manager, and who the club will decide to sign in the summer. Whether Chelsea qualify for Europe, will have a major impact.
It is also likely to have an impact when it comes to the future of some of Chelsea’s main players. As things stand, Chelsea will miss out on European qualification via the League, but they are in the FA Cup final.
You can only keep one, Enzo Fernandez or Cole Palmer. Who are you choosing?
Tell us who but also why!

They need to beat Man City to get into the Europa League final, a win which would see Calum McFarlane become only the second Englishman in Chelsea’s history to guide the Blues to such an accolade.
If Chelsea are going to tempt Enzo Fernandez into staying put this summer, then they will need European football of some degree as a minimum. Without it, they can wave goodbye to the World Cup winner.
Contract details emerge as Chelsea set stance on Enzo Fernandez
Little over a month ago, Fernandez walked back into Cobham and was hit with a two-game ban. The midfielder had been flirting, pretty outrageously, with Madrid. Chelsea made an example out of him.
Liam Rosenior wanted to prove he was big enough for the Chelsea job, and he was banned. Ultimately, it proved to be a ridiculous decision and probably contributed to the sacking of Rosenior a few weeks later.

Since then, Fernandez has been immense for Chelsea, scoring the winner in the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds and then the free-kick on Saturday at Anfield. Chelsea want to extend his contract in West London.
Understandable, given his desire to move to Madrid and links with Manchester City, too. Nicolo Schira reports on X that Chelsea ready to extend his contract by one or two more years, likely with a pay rise.
Schira posted on X overnight: “Chelsea are ready to offer to Enzo Fernandez the contract extension until 2033 or 2034.”
What are the chances that Fernandez signs new Chelsea deal?
It is a big summer coming up for Chelsea, and they will be desperate to keep their central core of players. That includes Cole Palmer, Reece James, Levi Colwill, Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella – but there is interest.
QUARTER-FINAL 4: Which Chelsea player has had the best season?
Tying Fernandez down to a new deal will help convince the likes of Pedro, Cucurella and Palmer – all of whom have been linked with the exit door – to remain at Chelsea and push for a top-four finish next term.
But it is a big if. Fernandez clearly wants to join Madrid and if the Spanish giants come knocking, then he will surely be off. Chelsea want a £100m fee for Enzo, and it is claimed Madrid will struggle to afford him.
Realistically, Fernandez may find that he is stuck at Chelsea and has no other option but to sign a new deal. While he has improved of late, only a few clubs can afford £100m. Fernandez could well stay put.
