The Hammers are fighting for survival at the bottom of the table; meanwhile, Arsenal are, of course, in the driving seat in the race for the title.

Nuno Espirito Santo says Declan Rice is one of the best midfielders

Nuno Espirito Santo claims that West Ham United should be so proud of the player Declan Rice has become ahead of their clash with Arsenal.

The Portuguese manager is adamant that he is now one of the best midfielders in the world and that he is such a complete player.

When asked about Rice, Nuno told Sky Sports: “Oh, amazing. Amazing. Declan is probably one of, not probably, for sure one of the best midfielders in the world.

“He has so much talent, so much energy, physicality, set pieces. He has anything that you can deliver inside the game, he can do it.

“So I think we at West Ham should be proud of how the club has developed a player with so much talent and quality, and showing that around the world.”

Nuno Espirito Santo speaks on how West Ham fans view Declan Rice

One thing which will be so interesting is the reception Rice will receive from the London Stadium during Sunday’s clash.

Nuno thinks that West Ham fans have a great deal of respect for him; however, he has made it clear that Rice is their opponent on Sunday.

Speaking about how the fans view Rice, Nuno added: “I think the respect is there and the admiration is there for sure, but on Sunday, Declan is going to be our opponent. That is for sure.”

Rice is yet to lose to his former club, although he has won just three of the six meetings since making the switch across London.

On Sunday afternoon, he will be desperate to make it four wins, with his current club bidding to win the Premier League title.
