Newcastle United are eyeing a move to sign FC Porto sensation Victor Froholdt this summer to bolster their midfield, according to The Times.
The Magpies have had a disappointing campaign and are set to miss out on European football entirely, which means a number of first-team stars are expected to be heading for the exit this summer.
Eddie Howe is keen to rebuild the squad after reaching the Champions League twice in three years and ending the club’s 70-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup in 2025, and midfield is an area they are keen to bolster.
Newcastle Eyeing Froholdt Deal

Foroholdt, who has been described as ‘the best player in Portugal’, has enjoyed a sensational campaign with Porto since signing from FC Copenhagen last summer, scoring eight goals and registering six assists as they lifted the Portuguese league title.
His energetic and athletic style have made him stand out, and it’s understood that Newcastle have been among the clubs keeping a close eye on him and other Porto players, with the expectation that they will need to sell to raise funds this summer.
Porto have previously pointed to Froholdt’s £73m release clause when clubs have shown an interest, but it’s now reported that they would be open to a deal for around £52m, with a number of clubs keen on his services.
Newcastle are preparing for the potential exit of midfield star Sandro Tonali this summer amid strong interest from a number of clubs, and the Denmark international would likely come in as a like-for-like replacement on the right side of the midfield three.
Newcastle Move for Froholdt Makes Sense

It’s never easy to rebuild a squad, but Howe has shown in the past that he is a manager capable of making the big decisions, and that includes letting key players leave at the right time.
There is an expectation that Anthony Gordon will leave in attack, but filling the Tonali-sized hole in midfield could arguably be more difficult to do, and a deal for a player like Froholdt would be shrewd business for a young talent with experience at the highest level, and the skillset to step into the Premier League and hit the ground running.
It won’t be an easy deal to complete, but it’s clear that Porto are not closing the door on any move, and Newcastle should take encouragement from that.
