Chelsea fans were delighted to see Levi Colwill in the starting side for the first time in the 2025/26 season, and he impressed greatly against Liverpool.
Colwill was at the heart of a new-look back three system for Chelsea at Anfield, a system which is familiar to reported managerial target Xabi Alonso.
The England international impressed in our player ratings from the game, and managed to get through 90 minutes despite limping on a number of occasions.

There is a hope that he will be fit to start the FA Cup final against Manchester City, and the numbers behind his performance suggest that he enjoyed his return to action.
No player on the pitch recorded more defensive contributions than Colwill, with 11 total for the Chelsea defender as they resisted numerous onslaughts from the Liverpool attack.

He also made sure he was extremely involved with Chelsea’s build up play, registering a game-high 91 touches.
The defender completed 89% of his passes, and showed the progressive passing that the Blues have been desperately lacking in his absence.
Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo both dropped to the bench following their horror shows against Nottingham Forest, and it was noticeable the difference his presence made in the backline.

He was very strong in the tackle too, winning 100% of his ground duels, as well as dominating aerially with 100% of those duels won too.
There is an argument all of Colwill, Jorrel Hato and Wesley Fofana should be handed the start at Wembley at the weekend, after they marshalled the Reds well for large portions of the game.
They were also helped with the build up with the presence of Moises Caicedo, and later Reece James in midfield after he made his return from injury.
The skipper will be a huge addition to the side when they line up for the cup final, but Colwill should now be one of the first players alongside him in the tunnel at Wembley.
