Dorset Police said it received reported that a man aged in his 30s was reportedly assaulted by another man shortly after 7am on Friday, May 8 in Norwich Road.
The victim was taken to hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.

Police arrive at the scene shortly after 7am where a cordon was erected on the road near the Triangle and a police presence remained in place until the afternoon.
A forensics van was also seen in Norwich Road as officers patrolled the street.
A spokesperson for the force said officers were searching the area for the suspect while no arrests had been made.
