Aston Villa and Crystal Palace will need Juventus to offer a wage contribution if they are to sign Jonathan David on loan this summer.
Tuttomercatoweb report that while David will most likely leave Juventus, negotiations are shaping up to be anything but straightforward.
Juventus wage problems
The website explains that Jonathan David currently €6m per year plus bonuses at Juventus… after tax.
His current deal also has four years left to run. He, therefore, requires a top tier offer to convince him to move this summer.
He is firmly targeting a move to the Premier League. Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have inquired about him in recent weeks. But a transfer would only be likely if there was a contribution from Juventus.
That would either involve covering a part of the striker’s salary or accepting a loan with an option to buy. Either way, the Bianconeri would have to facilitate the deal in some fashion. His high wages remain the key issue for all parties.
There is also the World Cup to consider. The 26-year-old will be there with Canada. If he impresses in that tournament, it could ‘reshuffle the cards’.
€12m valuation
From an accounting standpoint, Jonathan David is valued at around €12m at this moment in time. That’s considered a ‘modest figure’ for a player of his calibre. But his high salary continues to weigh heavily on his transfer prospects.
There is even a possibility he remains at Juventus beyond the summer. With Loïs Openda set to leave and Dusan Vlahovic yet to sign a contract extension, letting David go may not be worth it.
But if he does want to depart, then the likes of Aston Villa and Crystal Palace will need help. They, and others, simply can’t afford the Canadian forward given his current salary package.
