Unai Emery has confirmed that Amadou Onana will be unavailable for selection for Aston Villa against Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder misses out due to a calf injury he suffered in the first half of the first leg against Forest last week.

He was brought off early in the second half and replaced by Lamare Bogarde.

Chris Wood scored the only goal of the first leg, converting a penalty in the 71st minute after Lucas Digne committed a handball offence.

Ahead of the second leg, John McGinn trained at Bodymoor Heath after missing Villa’s defeat against Tottenham due to a tight hamstring.

Onana, however, will not feature, as Emery confirmed during his pre-match press conference.

Asked if the Belgian’s absence from training means that he won’t play on Thursday night, Emery responded: “Obviously not.”

On McGinn, Emery confirmed: “He trained normally and if it doesn’t change, then he will be available tomorrow.”
