Assan Ouedraogo has reemerged as an option for Liverpool going into the 2026 summer transfer window.

Ouedraogo’s management were in talks with Liverpool back in 2023, but a move never came to pass.

However, the Reds are linked with the midfielder again this week, while Jurgen Klopp recently had some high praise for the young talent.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Since leaving Anfield, Klopp has been working with Red Bull, where he has been able to get a good look at Ouedraogo.

The 19-year-old is currently on the books of RB Leipzig, and when speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast last month, the former Liverpool coach could not stop praising the midfielder.

He was asked: “Jurgen who are the players we need to watch out for?”

To which Klopp replied: “I don’t think you will have heard of him, but Assan Ouedraogo, he plays for Leipzig and he made a massive impression.

“Very young, 19-year-old midfielder, very tall, really good dribbler, stuff like that, good sense for space and the goal. Injured right now, but if he can play the rest of the season he could be a good choice.”

Liverpool’s potential midfield signings

Links to Ouedraogo emerging once again mean Liverpool’s shortlist of potential midfield signings is growing.

Three midfielders could leave in the 2026 summer transfer window, which would necessitate at least one new addition.

Curtis Jones is thought to be open to an exit, while Wataru Endo was hardly playing prior to his injury.

On the incoming front, Adam Wharton was named a dream target for Liverpool, with a potential £80m price tag for the Crystal Palace standout.

Alongside Wharton, Tottenham Hotspur’s Archie Gray is an option if the Lilywhites suffer relegation to the Championship.

The third midfielder mooted alongside Wharton was Kees Smit, with whom Arne Slot worked as a youngster.
