Leeds United are claimed over in Portugal to be pushing on with a free transfer agreement for Sporting CP midfielder Hidemasa Morita.
Although it’s not a mathematical certainty, everyone is already safe in the assumption that Leeds are staying in the Premier League.
For the 49ers, the pressure is on again to deliver another very successful Premier League transfer window. Safety being 99.84% assured means there’s scope to get a head-start on business.
Leeds United “well underway” with Sporting CP’s Hidemasa Morita on free transfer
Reports have again linked Leeds with a move to sign Sporting CP midfielder Hidemasa Morita this summer. The experienced Japan international has been a firm favourite in the Portuguese capital in the past few seasons.
Due to leave on a free transfer, Morita was subject to a strong appeal from Sporting fans to plead with him to stay put at the club. His performances in the middle of the park, despite their star players being routinely prised by elite clubs, have been exemplary. And, it’s something Leeds are reportedly well aware of.
The latest comes from A Bola. They report that Morita wanted assurances of Leeds being safe from relegation before progressing with transfer talks.
Now that Leeds are on 43 points and on the brink of guaranteed safety, the transfer is claimed to be “well underway”:
“Morita’s transfer to the north of England, as A BOLA realized in a timely manner, is very well underway for several reasons,” the report reads.
“One of them is not bringing costs to Leeds, because it is at zero cost; then, for the versatility that the Sporting No5 offers, because in the midfield he can play in position six as well as in the eight.”
It’s said that Farke’s would like a midfielder more adept in possession ahead of season two in the top flight. Morita is earmarked as a specialist in that regard, something he’s shown in his four seasons at Estádio José Alvalade.
Hidemasa Morita could add vital depth to Leeds United’s midfield
This summer, there’s a balancing act again with our recruitment. We have to weigh up between strengthening the depth of our squad while also adding star quality to the lineup.
Morita probably wouldn’t join Leeds as a guaranteed starter. But, we should look at him as someone to play in the same squad role as Ilia Gruev. Therefore, it’s a very shrewd deal.
If Gruev recovers from his injury and receives a decent transfer approach, replacing him for free with Morita represents a great move.
He’s got the technical quality to play in the Premier League while also adding lots of experience too.
