The need for attacking depth at Manchester United is becoming increasingly clear as the season winds down.

With a long campaign and European football returning next season, squad depth in key areas is expected to be a priority.

In particular, questions remain around the striker department and the lack of reliable backup options.

That situation has already forced the club to explore the market.

Lassine Sinayoko has emerged as a player of interest for United after earlier talks during the winter window last year.

The club had entered serious negotiations with the striker and his representatives, reportedly discussing a potential salary package of around £2.6 million (€3 million).

At the time, United were exploring the possibility of securing him on a free transfer once his contract situation allowed.

However, they are no longer alone in the race.

Crystal Palace are now actively pursuing the forward as they look to strengthen their attack, as Africa Foot reported.

The Eagles are aiming to reduce their reliance on Jean-Philippe Mateta and add a more dynamic presence up front.

Manager Oliver Glasner already has multiple options, including Eddie Nketiah and Jorgen Strand Larsen, but the club still sees room for improvement.

Sinayoko’s profile fits what they are looking for.

Currently at AJ Auxerre, the Malian international has impressed in Ligue 1 with his physicality, intelligence and work rate.

He has contributed eight goals and three assists in 29 league appearances this season, establishing himself as a key figure for his club.

His importance is also reflected in his contract status, having signed multiple extensions and becoming one of Auxerre’s top earners.

For United, the interest is tied to a broader concern.

Their current striker depth remains thin, with Benjamin Sesko leading the line after a promising debut season and notching up 12 goals across all competitions.

He has already featured regularly, and scored in the recent win over Liverpool, but the lack of a natural alternative raises risk if injuries occur.

That reality makes the pursuit of another forward a logical step.

While Palace are pushing to secure Lassine Sinayoko, United’s prior negotiations suggest they remain firmly in the picture.
