With his acrobatic effort against Nottingham Forest on Monday, Joao Pedro brought up the milestone of 20 goals in all competitions in his first full season in blue.
That the Brazilian is just the 11th different Chelsea player to achieve that feat in the Premier League era highlights the magnitude of the achievement – and it is even more impressive when you consider not one of his 20 goals have come from the penalty spot.
Here are the 11 Chelsea players to have hit 20 goals in all competitions in a single season during the Premier League era, with several having done so on multiple occasions…
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink – 2000/01 and 2001/02
The then club record signing Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was bought to bring goals and he delivered that in abundance during his first two campaigns at Stamford Bridge, netting 26 and then 29 goals.
In fact, he won the Premier League golden boot in 2000/01 after a memorable debut season, scoring 23 goals to help us qualify for the UEFA Cup.
Eidur Gudjohnsen – 2001/02
Hasselbaink formed a deadly strike partnership with Eidur Gudjohnsen in 2001/02 as both players passed the 20-goal barrier.
Gudjohnsen ended up on 23 goals and plenty of those were laid on by Jimmy Floyd, with their telepathic understanding a joy to behold.
Frank Lampard – 2005/06, 2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10
Frank Lampard redefined what a midfielder was capable of by netting 20 goals or more in a remarkable five consecutive seasons between 2005 and 2010.
Lampard was adept at timing his run into the box and finishing with aplomb, so it was no surprise that he became Chelsea’s all-time record goalscorer in 2013.
Didier Drogba – 2006/07 and 2009/10
Didier Drogba hit top gear in his third season at Chelsea, netting 33 goals in all competitions, including the winner in both the FA Cup and League Cup finals.
Then, in 2009/10, his 29 goals were pivotal to our third Premier League triumph and earned the Ivorian the Golden Boot award.
Nicolas Anelka – 2008/09
With Drogba out injured for much of 2008/09, striking responsibilities fell to Nicolas Anelka in his first full season as a Chelsea player.
The Frenchman was up to the task, netting 23 goals, of which his 19 in the league were the most by anyone in the division that season.
Fernando Torres – 2012/13
Blues fans may rarely have seen the very best of Fernando Torres in a Chelsea shirt, but the Spaniard did notch 22 goals in the mammoth 2012/13 season.
Remarkably, that haul came across seven different competitions: the Premier League (eight), the Europa League (six), the Champions League (three), the League Cup (two) and then a goal each in the FA Cup, Club World Cup and Community Shield.
Juan Mata – 2012/13
His compatriot Juan Mata deservedly won our Player of the Year award in 2013 after a season in which he hit 20 goals and registered a further 30 assists.
Highlights included winners away to both Arsenal and Manchester United and a brilliant brace at Tottenham, with Mata scoring his 20th on the final day as we beat Everton at the Bridge.
Diego Costa – 2014/15 and 2016/17
Another Spain international is the next player on our list, with Diego Costa’s goals in 2014/15 (21) and 2016/17 (22) firing us to our most recent Premier League titles.
No opposition defender relished coming up against his blend of brute force and brilliant finishing ability, while the Bridge faithful adored Diego’s passion and grit.
Eden Hazard – 2018/19
Eden Hazard delivered the perfect parting gift in his final season as a Chelsea player, which was arguably the pick of a very impressive bunch.
Our last game was the Europa League final against Arsenal in Baku and Hazard was on 19 goals for the season at kick-off, so his second-half brace not only helped us win silverware but ensured he deservedly hit another milestone.
Cole Palmer – 2023/24
Cole Palmer’s debut campaign was one to remember as he bagged 25 goals in all competitions. Like Lampard, Mata and Hazard before him, the feat was made more impressive because he was not the central striker in the team.
Nine penalties were converted with aplomb, and there were also hat-tricks in consecutive home games in memorable wins against Manchester United and Everton.
Joao Pedro – 2025/26
Joao Pedro opened his account for the season with our first goal of 2025/26, in the big win at West Ham on matchday two, and following his stunning strike against Nottingham Forest, made it 20 for the season.
So far there have been 15 league goals this season. He also has three Champions League finishes to his name – including that stunner in Naples – and two strikes in the FA Cup.
