Rebecca Teale’s journey to becoming a permanent part of Brentford Women has been shaped by resilience, self-discovery, and a deep commitment to improvement both on and off the pitch. Initially joining the club on a dual registration from Lewes, the right-back has since made her move permanent, cementing her place within a squad that has had a good season.
Rebecca has featured 14 times this season, starting every match and contributing one goal and two assists.
While her consistency on the pitch has been vital, it is her personal journey, particularly her relationship with strength training, that has defined her development.
“I would say my motivation for the gym and how I fell in love with it was me having a big injury when I was at Chelsea Academy,” she explains.
“I had to have surgery and, in that time off my feet, I was doing a lot of rehab. That’s when I fell in love with weight training and strength training. I fell in love with fitness outside of football.”

That period marked a turning point. What began as rehabilitation soon became a passion, though not without its challenges.
“Strength training and football go hand in hand, but they can also contradict,” she says.
“When I was coming back, I let that take over and had to learn from my mistakes. I was feeling quite sluggish because I put on muscle in the wrong way.”
Learning to balance the physical demands of football with her interest in bodybuilding required patience and self-awareness.
“It took me really learning about my body and growing,” Teale adds. “Finding the balance between the two is a necessity. Football is my life, but I have also fallen in love with bodybuilding, and I have managed to learn how to do both.”
That balance is now a key part of her routine, with careful attention paid to off-season planning, load management, and ensuring that both disciplines complement each other.
“I have learned what works and what does not,” she says. “I just have to make sure that both benefit each other, and Brentford has helped me to be successful in both.”
Her move to Brentford quickly felt like the right fit. Even in her initial weeks at the club, Teale recognised the environment as one where she could thrive.
“From just being here for a few weeks, I knew I wanted to be in this environment,” she says. “It is a place to develop, but it is also a place to compete, and that is something I really value.”
Now fully part of the squad, her ambitions remain firmly aligned with the club’s trajectory. “My main goal is to keep succeeding with Brentford,” she says. “My priority lies with Brentford, and I have fallen in love with the club.”
While Brentford narrowly missed out on promotion this season, Teale is confident in the direction the team is heading.
“We did not manage to get promotion this year, but as a squad we have grown so much,” she reflects. “As a team, as a unit, we are still pushing on.”
The focus has already shifted to the future, with lessons from this campaign shaping their approach moving forward.
“Looking ahead to next year, we know what we want and we want to achieve that,” she says. “There are a number of things we are taking on board, the nutrition, the individual development plans.
“We cannot let the disappointment from this season affect us next season.”
