West Ham lost 3-0 to Brentford on Saturday

The Hammers drop into the bottom three with the loss

Two home games left this season

West Ham United’s Premier League survival fight came to a halting stop as they lost 3-0 to Brentford on Saturday. The Hammers had gone April without losing a game, but now return to the bottom three after a disappointing showing across London.

Goals from Michael Kayode, Igor Thiago and Mikel Damsgaard condemned West Ham to a defeat that leaves a lot of word for the team to do. Whilst the Irons had their chances, Nuno Espirito Santo has told the club’s official website that the team needs to forget Saturday, stick together and move forward.

“We played a very good first half. The way we played, the way our game flowed, even though we conceded in the first situation off a cross, a couple of times we had bad luck in the other end.

“We didn’t achieve [a goal], we had chances with the post and we created a lot of problems for Brentford.

“So, we were positive in the first half, but then [after they scored] the penalty in the second half, we lost a bit of composure and organisation, and it became much harder.

“It’s going to be a big challenge for all of us with the impact of this tough day. We’ve got to look at other stadiums and see what’s going on.

“But that’s what I said to the boys: ‘Let’s keep together, let’s realise how we react from a bad day like today is going to keep us alive in the fight’.”

West Ham fans as key as ever

Whilst the Hammers could not deliver on the pitch, the task in hand will take everyone if West Ham want to get over the line. Nuno knows this, and with two home games left this season, needs the fans to do what they do best, more than ever.

“We have been asking our fans for their support and our fans are giving back.

“Of course, today they are disappointed with us, but we need them more than ever.”

Next up for Irons, title chasing Arsenal come to the London Stadium, before a trip north to Newcastle United. The season finishes on the final day, with Leeds United.
