Safety fears around Wolves intensified after falling metal at Molineux prompted questions for interim executive chairman Nathan Shi.

The club said in a statement that a fixing from a speaker on the roof of the Sir Jack Hayward Stand became dislodged. The supporter received prompt on-site care and later went home. It added that inspections and repairs will take place in the coming days.

The incident happened during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland AFC. A section of the South Bank was partially evacuated after the fall, then around 200 supporters were moved at half-time, leaving a visible gap for the rest of the match.

Footage shared by Wolves Fancast showed Shi being pressed on stadium safety as he walked to his car after the game. He was also asked why Jeff Shi had been spending significant time at the club’s Compton training base, and whether ownership group Fosun International had concerns about attendance and infrastructure.

The episode follows long overdue refurbishment work at Molineux that began last summer after supporters raised concerns.
