Bruno Guimaraes notched his 150th Premier League appearance as Newcastle United beat Brighton 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies put their recent poor run of form behind them to run out winners at St James’ Park, as their energy saw them overwhelm their visitors throughout the 90 minutes.

Goals from Will Osula, Dan Burn and Harvey Barnes carried the Tynesiders to a first victory in five Premier League games, as they kept their faint hopes of securing European qualification for next season alive.

It was a typically influential display from their Guimaraes in the middle of the park, as the Magpies’ captain notched an assist and won 70 per cent of his duels throughout the game.

Newcastle’s win over Brighton saw the Brazilian reach a special milestone in his Premier League career, and he took to social media after the game to share his delight.

Bruno Guimaraes shares Instagram message

Guimaraes has been a huge influence on Newcastle since his move from Lyon back in January 2022, but he has taken his game to new heights this season.

He has struck a career-high nine league goals this term, and his assist for Burn’s effort on Saturday has now taken him to within one goal involvement of his most productive season in black and white, which came in 2023-24.

The midfielder spent a period on the sidelines earlier in 2026, but he has returned in recent weeks and now appears ready to help turn Newcastle’s fortunes around in the closing weeks of the season.

Guimaraes took to Instagram after his team’s victory on Saturday, as he delivered a heartfelt message after reaching the 150 milestone.

“I’m very happy to be reaching 150 in the Premier League with a great win and an assist!” The Brazilian wrote.

“Time goes by so fast, and we have to make the most of every minute. Thanks for today’s support, Geordies! Great team effort and 3 very important points!”

He also accompanied that message with emojis of black and white hearts, followed by his shirt number, 39.

Guimaraes part of potential five-man Newcastle exodus

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider at the start of April that Newcastle have “serious concerns” about having their key players raided this summer, with European football unlikely for next term.

The likes of Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon have all been attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs of late, while Brown suggested that Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento could also move on.

The former recruitment chief made it clear that Newcastle want to keep all five of their key stars if possible, but added that it may prove to be impossible after such a disappointing campaign this term.

Guimaraes remains under contract at St James’ until the summer of 2028, meaning that Newcastle would at least have the consolation of being able to net a huge fee for him if he did depart.
