Jeremy Doku signed for Man City in 2023
The winger has five goals and 14 assist this season
He has been explaining how he thinks in attack
Manchester City forward Jeremy Doku has been breaking down clips of himself attacking, explaining what goes through his head when the ball is at his feet.
The Belgian attacker has been in excellent form this season, netting five goals and providing 14 assists in all competitions.
His £55 million arrival from Rennes in 2023 was met with massive expectations, but it took him some time to live up to the hype surrounding him.
This season, though, he looks to have found his feet and reached new heights in Pep Guardiola’s side, becoming a massively important player for the Carabao Cup winners.
Manchester City star Jeremey Doku explains attacking intent
Speaking via the Man City Twitter (X) account, Doku has been discussing how he thinks during different attacking scenarios.
The forward explained his thought processes alongside an assortment of clips of him in possession from throughout the season.
Doku said: “To go for more as a modern-day winger is exciting, always. I try to create chaos. The ball comes, but I see Ryan Gravenberch, so I have to go quick at him before Ryan comes back.
“So now, when the ball comes quickly, I still have time to go inside and outside. Because Nico [O’Reilly] makes a run, Ryan is following, so the inside is open. My dribble was not that good, but I wanted to go inside because there was space there.
“I try to create chaos.” ⚡️

“Being direct has always been a big part of my game, because I fell like that’s what defenders don’t like. They like you to play around and stuff like that.
“But I just try to go at them, create chaos and make it a difficult day for them. I think when I’m confident, it’s difficult to stop me.
Doku has found his feet at Manchester City
On paper, Doku’s numbers this season are not noticeably better than he had managed in his first two campaigns at Manchester City.
He registered six goals and 11 assists in his first season, with a further six goals and nine assists in 2024/25.
However, what has changed is his overall impact on the team. Doku’s influence and consistency have grown significantly in recent months.
The Belgian no longer delivers in odd games, he is now one of the club’s top performers almost every time he sets foot on the pitch.
How important can Doku become for Man City?
Although improving, Doku himself will be the first to admit he wants more goals in his game and is far from the finished article.
Already a hugely important member of Guardiola’s squad, if he can become a consistent, 10-goal forward in the Premier League, he will reach elite status.
For City, Doku’s steady improvement is exciting, but they will be hoping the 23-year-old still has a lot of developing to come.
