Viktor Gyokeres produced a brilliant double to help down Fulham today and in doing so wrote his name into the Arsenal history books.
Gyokeres pounced to score twice to put the Cottagers to the sword and he has once again shown that he is very much the key man for Arsenal up front now.
The Swede has had his fair share of criticism this season but with a crucial goal against Atletico last week and another two today, he’s shown he’s got what it takes when needed.
Interestingly as well, Gyokeres also scored his 20th of the season against Fulham. And in doing so, he did achieved what no Arsenal striker has done in over a decade.
Who was your Man of the Match against Fulham?
Viktor Gyokeres matches Alexis Sanchez’s scoring record with Fulham double
For Viktor Gyokeres to get to 20 goals this season is a good achievement. It might not be the massive numbers we see a Harry Kane or Robert Lewandowski get, but it’s a solid return.
In fact, Arsenal fans are not used to seeing new players do it.
Indeed, not since Alexis Sanchez back in the 2015 season have Arsenal had a player hit 20 goals on their debut season at the club. That means that over a decade has gone by with some big signings made who have failed to do what Gyokeres now has.

For Gyokeres, he can mark it down as a fine achievement.
Arsenal fans, of course, will hope he’s ticking towards the 25 and 30 mark come the end of the season. And if he is, then there’s a good chance Arsenal have won something.
Arsenal’s top goal scorers in the last five seasons
Getting to 20 is the benchmark for a lot of strikers and Gyokeres can be proud of his achievement.
It’s a starting block and given the numbers he put up at Sporting Lisbon, he’ll be looking to improve on it further in the coming years.

As for where he stands with Arsenal’s top scorers in the last few years, he stands up well.
In fact, not since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2020 have Arsenal had someone score more than 20 goals.
Bukayo Saka netted 20 in the 23/24 season, while last season Kai Havertz was the top man on just 13.
Priori to that, Gabi Martinelli hit 15 in 2022, with Saka again topping the charts with just 12 the season prior.
Gyokeres, then, has done just fine and will be delighted with his debut season.
