The family of a teenage motorcyclist who died in a crash in Southampton have described him as “brave” and “deeply loyal”.

Zain Shaw, who was 17 and from Fareham, died following the incident on Northam Bridge on April 25 2026, which involved a silver Volkswagen Polo and a black Yamaha YZF motorbike.

In a statement, his family said: “Zain was a brave, funny and deeply loyal young man who brought light and laughter into our lives.

“He was loved by his family and friends more than words can express. His warmth, kindness and spirit will remain with us always.

“Our hearts are broken but we take comfort in the memories we shared and the joy he gave us in his 17 years.

“Zain loved riding his motorbike, and we take comfort in knowing he was out doing something he loved.”

They continued: “We have been overwhelmed by the support and kind messages we’ve received and we are truly grateful for everyone who has reached out.

“We also want to thank the emergency services for their efforts at the scene and for their compassion and support during this unimaginable time.”

A 17-year-old boy and a 29-year-old man from Southampton, who were both in the VW Polo, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving.

The 17-year-old has since been released from custody and will face no further action in relation to this offence.

The 29-year-old man has been released but remains under investigation while Hampshire Police continue their enquiries.

Police are asking anyone with information about the collision to contact them on 101, quoting reference 44260192933.
